HOW TO BECOME AN IB PROGRAMME CANDIDATE AT BMHS

Who is Eligible?

The IB Diploma and IB Career-related begins in 11th grade. All current 10th grade students are eligible to apply. Students not districted to BMHS, must complete an application process with one of the IB progammes, in order to attend BMHS for IB.

When does the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) and IB Career-Related Programme (IBCP) begin?

Officially, the IBDP and IBCP is a 2-year program, spanning a student’s 11th and 12th grade years.  However, because IB is a rigorous academic program, it is important that students prepare in 9th and 10th grade for the type of work they will be asked to do. Please contact your student's school counselor for more information specific to your child.

How does a student become an IB Programme Candidate at BMHS?

In a student's 10th grade year, students who are interested in becoming IBDP or IBCP candidates will complete an application process. The IB admissions committee will consider the following requirements:

  • a student’s grades in 9th and 10th grade

  • teacher recommendations

Students who, in grades 9 and 10, have demonstrated a strong academic record, a strong work ethic, intrinsic intellectual curiosity, and a desire to participate as citizens in a global community will be considered strong candidates for the program.
